50s-style cocktail dress: outfit of the day

Over the past few years, my biggest wardrobe obsession has been dresses. I just can’t get enough! And after all, we need dresses for every occasion. This outfit of the day features a gorgeous cream-colored 50s-style cocktail dress… which is perfect when you want to add an extra touch of glamor to your day, or if you have something to celebrate.

50s-style cocktail dressMy reason for celebrating? This week I launched a brand new online store. My new shop features editing and writing services (for bloggers, business owners, and more!), as well as fun products like blog editing checklists.

Right now my store primarily features writing and editing services and products, but I will soon be launching other products related to health and wellness (stay tuned for a green smoothie booklet, coming soon!) and, of course, style and beauty.

How cute is the little bow belt with this dress?

In the light of feeling in a celebratory mood, I paired this sweet, 50s-style cream-colored cocktail dress with a little bow belt in almost the exact same color, silver drop earrings with red details, a geometric pastel-colored ring, and blue suede high heels.

And I couldn’t resist doing my hair in paper bag curls. These curls seem to look best with a deeper side part, as pictured above.

how to get perfect nails

Clear nail polish + geometric pastel ring.

In light of making this outfit of the day all about the 50s-style cocktail dress, I made the rest of the details for this look subtle. The shoes and earrings pop, if you happen to notice them, and that’s about it. This blue and pink geometric ring is so pretty (I got it from a boutique in Barcelona—it reminds me so much of Gaudi’s work!).

The nails for this look are simple and classic: just a clear base coat with a layer of clear top coat over it. Done and done.

These shoes are so perfect with this dress.

And that’s all there is to this super pretty, understated yet classy look! Sometimes when you make one piece—like this fantastic 50s-style cocktail dress—the main event, you can ensure that all the details draw the eye to your main piece rather than away from it.

Doesn’t it make for an elegant (and fun!) celebratory outfit?
