Hi, my name’s Sagan, and I’m addicted to peanut butter!
It’s true. I’ve got a clear-cut addiction and there’s no help for it. I don’t even want to kick the habit.
I eat peanut butter almost every day. On bread, tortillas, bananas, apples, celery, pancakes, mixed in cookies, with jam or honey or chocolate, or straight from the jar; you name it. I’m a total spoon-in-the-PB-jar girl. It’s very specific peanut butter that I eat: it’s got to be smooth PB, and it’s got to be the all-natural kind. Crunchy peanut butter is a big no-no. And as for cooking with peanut butter? No thanks. For some reason I’m not big on the peanut sauces.
My newest love? PB2! I won 4 jars from MizFit‘s blog and they came just the other day. This is special peanut butter because its in powdered form (my sisters reaction to the powdered part was “that’s sketchy!“), with a lot of the fat removed. The ingredient list: peanuts, salt, sugar. Now, when I buy my peanut butter, I always choose the all-natural kind with the only ingredient being peanuts (I’m just that picky!), but there is a very tiny amount of sugar and salt added to this peanut butter so it really doesn’t bother me.
I’m not exactly what you’d call “fat-phobic”, but I’m not big on a lot of fats. I eat non-fat yogurt and milk, I almost always will use a non-stick pan or else just cooking spray instead of oil for cooking, I blot meat with a paper towel to get rid of some of the grease, I have sauces and dressings on the side, and I replace butter with applesauce in baking to cut down on the fat. Part of it is because of the flavour and the texture… when I eat even 1% yogurt, it tastes too heavy for me, and the same goes for milk. However, if I’m eating quality cheese, I’ll usually choose the regular full-fat stuff (I still do like and definitely support the healthy fats- I just don’t like a great big portion of them all at once, for myself). And I don’t like my food to be oily and greasy in terms of taste, either. (I blame my slight aversion to fat from living as a nanny in Spain last summer… my house mother liked to literally drown everything she cooked in enormous amounts of olive oil. And I mean that the meat would be completely covered in oil. Yuck!).
Therefore, as you can imagine, all-natural peanut butter with some of the fat removed is incredibly appealing to me. Two tablespoons of PB2, mixed with 1 tbsp of water, is only about 50 calories and less than 2 grams of fat. For someone like me who has an infatuation with peanut butter, this means that I can have FOUR TABLESPOONS of peanut butter- that’s 1/4 cup!- instead of 1 tbsp of my regular peanut butter, for roughly the same amount of calories, and half the fat!
There probably isn’t much point in telling you right now that a good 1/3 of the first jar has already been polished off:) And that it is only serving to feed my addiction rather than cure it. Hurrah!
Tell me, does anyone else love peanut butter as much as I do (well, I know that you do, Peanut Butter Boy!)? Do you have any healthy (or non-healthy!) addictions to certain foods? Own up! And while you’re at it, pick up some PB2 for yourself. It tastes just like regular peanut butter (ie. delicious) and it’s such a novelty!

You’re funny. 🙂 But, hey, at least you eat the natural kind. AND your addiction is of the much healthier variety than oh, say… SUGAR!! (Hello, that would be my Achilles heel!)

Loveofoats- Mmm, I love the oatmeal too. PB2 would taste excellent mixed in with a bowl of oatmeal… even when I eat tons of PB one day, the next day I still feel as though I could eat a great big tub of it. Very strange.

Ashley- ooh chocolate icing and PB DOES sound tasty! The PB2 tastes pretty normal- if you like all-natural PB then I think you’ll like this stuff. If you’re not a fan of the all-natural PB then it might taste too peanut-y.

Randi- once I’m done my four jars, yep I think I’ll be buying it online. If you like all-natural PB, then you’re really likely to enjoy the PB2. If not, I’d suggest getting used to all-natural PB before trying out the PB2. But I think its totally awesome!
yeah i have peanut butter everyday too. i limit it to two tablespoons, and by tablespoons i mean how much i can physically fit onto a tablespoon.

The Bag Lady prefers crunchy PB, on hot toast (so the PB melts), but refuses to corrupt it with stuff like jelly or honey. She used to love it with bananas mashed on top, but can’t tolerate the bananas anymore. Sigh.
I love PB too. I’ll have to try some!
I eat PB almost every day. It’s great on a waffle for breakfast, with a glass of milk.
PB2 sounds really strange. I eat all natural PB, but I’m just not sure I can go for powdered. 1/2 the fat is appealing though.
That powdered PB is intriguing. I, too, am a PB junkie. I’ll eat anything PB flavored. I just found PB granola from my favorite company, Bear Naked, yum!
I think you and I are the same person – you just described my eating habits to a TEE. Non-fat ypgurt and milk, not a ton of fat in my dit, but a HUGE insurmountable weakness for PB. My husband has a big jar and sometimes I would just take a spoon and dip it in the PB, then the jelly, mouth, repeat. He was (rightfully so) disgusted and asked me to stop defiling his proudct so yesterday, for the first time in – I swear – over a dcade, I bought myself my very own jar of peanut butter! i think I need to go blog about this! tx,

Robin- once you’ve mixed up the PB2 with the water (the ratio is 2 parts PB2 to 1 part water), then its nice and smooth so the weirdness of it coming in a powdered form fades:)
Leslie- Hehehe I LOVE that you got yourself your very own jar of PB. Definitely something I would do. Actually, I think my family’s kind of sketched out by the powdered PB and probably won’t be bothered to mix it up when there’s already 2 other jars of normal PB in the house, so I guess I kind of do have 4 jars all to myself… uh oh!
I agree–all natural PB is the only way to go! I tried it once and was immediately hooked. Can’t go a day without that stuff. Always can’t help but eat it straight out of the jar as dessert :p

I LOVE peanut butter. LOVE IT! All of it! Reese’s cups, peanut butter ice cream, peanut butter pie – you name it! mmmmmmm I also buy the all natural stuff too. Have you tried almond butter? It’s good also, but costs about $1,000,000,000 a jar, so I don’t get it often…

I’d be curious about the PB2, but I need to cut down on salt and sugar more than I do fat, so I’m not sure it would make sense for me.
Weirdly enough, the more (healthy) fat I eat, the easier it seems like it is to maintain my weight. Makes no sense, but I’m not messing with it.

Missicat- I really like almond butter, but it took a while to get used to. And Reeses cups? Heaven.
Crabby- I think it just depends who you are… for me, I really don’t need a lot of fat at all, so I eat a lot more carbs and protein. But some people function much better with a higher ratio of fat. Once you’ve got it figured out then you’re golden!

Correct! I do! By the by, I agree with you about fat in things. I can’t drink anything above skim milk because I don’t like the feeling of this thick congealed liquid in my throat, it’s sorta disturbing. Same thing goes for yogurt and grease of any sort.
But! When it comes to peanut butter, don’t forget that the oil is the healthiest part. I know my peanut butter and I’ve done my research, peanut oil is darn healthy and not only is good for your heart but HELPS you lose weight when you consume it – not that you need to lose any. Point is, I’m addicted, and George Washington Carver is my idol.
