Creamy peanut butter spiced oats
Just a reminder that we’re in the middle of our Peanut Butter Exhibition! Woohoo! This is a recipe that I’ve concocted especially for our peanut butter contest, which is focused around heat. I’ve chosen oatmeal since it’s a staple for so many in the winter months, but I’ve added some spice to heat it up a little – my usual cinnamon, but also a pinch of a magical ingredient: cayenne! Mmm.
1) Combine in a bowl the following ingredients:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1 tbsp of your favourite peanut butter (preferably smooth)
- A generous shake of cinnamon
- 1/2 or 2/3 sliced banana
- 1 cup water
2) Microwave* on high for two minutes, stir, and then microwave for another two minutes.
3) Remove from microwave. Give it a stir. Add to the bowl:
- Another tbsp peanut butter
- Pinch cayenne
4) Stir it all up nice and good. Try a spoonful because you’re too excited about what it will taste like to let it cool off. Set it aside while you try to cool your now burning tongue. Contemplate the beauty of peanut butter. Return to your bowl when it has cooled off just a little bit but is still nice and warm. Enjoy!
The cayenne might seem like an odd addition, and trust me when I say that all you need is a pinch, but it adds a wonderful heat to the dish. If you like spicy and if you’re feeling chilly from the weather, give this bowl of oatmeal a spin! It’s delightful.
*All of you purists out there are cringing right now, relax. If you aren’t a microwave person, you can easily make these oats on the stove top and add all of the ingredients part way through or at the end.
Now that sounds pretty darn interesting!!!!!!!!! Love all the ingredients!
That pic looks like chilil to me for some reason. 🙂
Seeing as I’m one of the few living people who doesn’t like peanut butter – do you think it would be equally good with tahini or almond butter? It seems like a great idea and I *love* oatmeal…
Absolutely! I’ve had this with almond butter and almond hazelnut butter before. I bet that walnut butter or cashew butter would be yummy (and HELLA creamy). I use nut butters very interchangeably 🙂
I never met a Canadian or a peanut butter dish that I didn’t like! Thank you on both counts, Sagan!
microwave away! never would have thought to try cayenne in oats. im not sure how i would take it…but i bet my hubby would love it. thanks for the great idea sagan! i haven’t been adventurous enough yet, but i want to try bacon/banana/peanut butter in oats sometime. like the elvis sandwich.
Ew.
omg, pb, bananas, cinnamon and oats is my most fav combo ever! love that. Im excited to see how your fasts go. Ive never been a fast type but Id really be interested in trying them/some for the same reasons you are!
I recently made pb granola spiced up with some cayenne! I liked it!
I love oatmeal, I’ll have to try a little (and a lot of pb) in some!
