Day Five of the Raw Food Challenge
Yesterday, on Day Four of the Raw Food Challenge, I ate:
– Banana pancakes (I used this recipe but made them a smaller pancake-size rather than crepe-size) spread with sunflower seed butter and topped with blueberries, plus a glass of homemade juice made with a small handful green grapes, 1/2 zucchini, 1 mandarin orange, and 1/4 lemon. This was a very tasty meal all around! I liked the addition of the grapes to the juice. The pancakes were very sweet but they were excellent with the seed butter and I’m sure they would taste equally delicious with the cashew cream recipe included at Rawmazing. I also took a digestive enzyme capsule with 1 glass lemon water.
– 1 apple dusted with cinnamon plus 1 carrot cut into sticks, 2 cups green tea, and 1 piece flatbread spread with hummus
– Salad with mixed spring greens, tomato, cucumber, broccoli, alfalfa/mustard/clover/radish sprouts, green pepper, 1/2 cob chopped corn, and homemade orange pomegranate dressing with 1 cinnamon apple on the side and 1 mug green tea
– Flatbread spread with hummus and topped with sprouts, tomato, and cucumber. It reminded me of pizza for some very strange reason.
– Yet another 1 1/2 apples with cinnamon and a mug of green tea. It was the only thing available at work for me to eat (holiday goodies now being off-limits with the Raw Food Challenge) after I finished my greens and flatbread!
– A couple (big) handfuls cashews and filberts (which are cousins of hazelnuts). It turns out we had raw nuts at the office after all ๐
– 1 1/2 mugs black tea
Because I was at work all day, and I forgot my lemon water, I wound up drinking tea instead. And eating copious amounts of nuts. Tasty.
This is the first day where I thought, hey, I could do that. All of that sounds great, and it doesn’t seem to be too little food. (I can pack in a lot, ya know.) How are your cravings for non-raw foods? Are they strong–or have they dissipated by now?

Sounding good! I’ll have to check out these so-called “filberts”, as I just thought it was a name! Keep up the great work.

Tracey- I can pack in a lot too! But I find that I’m not wanting to eat as much as I normally would. Maybe because I’m so restricted in what I CAN eat, heh. There’s still cravings every once in a while but it’s getting better, for the most part. Especially with the access to nuts!
Gina- I had no idea they were called filberts, to be honest. I had to look them up on the Internet. The picture of them identifies them as such, so that’s what I’m calling them ๐
Checking in ๐ Are you maintaining your weight on the raw diet? I would guess it’s a little harder to do that on this diet over most any other.

I had hopes for the banana pancakes, but alas, I have no dehydrator. ๐
I had no idea “raw” pancakes were possible–I pictured wet batter! Never thought of dehydration. Glad to hear they were good!
Wow – I’m not sure I could do this!!!! But I am cheering you on – go Sagan, go!! ๐
That’s raw nuts, right? Compared to roasted nuts, which do you prefer? honestly, I can’t stand raw nuts! but I did hear that some people actually enjoy the raw taste better.
ooooh methinks you need to send that pancake recipe Fitarellas way—-does she already have it?!
I would buy a dehydrator just for those pancakes! They look delicious!
Dr. J- Since January 1st I’ve lost 2 lbs and 0.7% body fat (as of this morning, anyways; it might jump back up tomorrow. Who knows. Scales are so tricksy like that). But I don’t mind that so much because I never did manage to lose the extra 5 lbs that I put on since the summer, heh.
Cammy & Hanlie- The pancakes are good, but they’re VERY sweet. They are also quite flat. I like the dehydrator for the versatility of all the things you can make with it!
Crabby- I guess in a way it’s like the infamous Breakfast Cookie that has circulated the blogosphere; the idea of oatmeal but refrigerated overnight so that it’s in cookie form. That would be raw, too (well, if you were using raw oats etc), and would be somewhat pancake-ish!
FatFighterTV- Thanks!!!
Sophia- Yes, that’s raw nuts ๐ I like both raw and roasted. Probably prefer roasted, but raw are still tasty to me.
Miz- I’m not sure! I should indeed let her know about it. I still think it’s funny that we both just happened to decide to do a month-long raw challenge at the same time, hehe.
