Product Review: Glee Gum
Writing a Novella
One of my current projects (besides, you know, the 9k race, the Burpee Challenge, writing my two blogs, preparing for another nutrition challenge… etc, etc) is completing my novella which I have been working on for nearly two years now. It is bundles of fun and I am happy to say that I am nearing (I think) the end of the road at last. I talk a bit about the writing process here and would love it if you went over and shared your own thoughts and experiences about writing fiction and blogs, and having fun with different styles of writing.
Glee Gum
Glee Gum is something special. I gave up regular gum some time ago because it’s really just chemicals in a tablet. Chewing on aspartame doesn’t exactly appeal to me. But sometimes it’s nice to have a piece of gum to chew on, and something a little bit healthier made with all-natural ingredients is the best way to go! The super nice people at Glee Gum were happy to send me a few samples to try (yes, we can get Glee Gum in Canada too!).
Glee Gum is more eco-friendly than regular gum because it is made with chicle, a natural tree sap, for chewing texture. The packaging is also recycled cardboard so it’s all around good for the environment.
The packages are honestly adorable. The cute little character on the front makes me smile, and I love the old fashioned label. The gum itself comes in many flavours, including peppermint, spearmint, cinnamon, bubblegum, triple berry, and tangerine. Two pieces contain 5 calories and 2 grams of sugar (the equivalent of half a teaspoon). While that seems like a lot of sugar, it is at least a natural sugar rather then artificial. No, it is not sugar-free, but I think that if you’re going to chew on a piece of gum, having a little bit of sugar in it is going to do you far less damage than if you go with the sugar-free stuff (because who knows what’s in those products!).
I enjoyed the taste of all of the different kinds of gum, and I would definitely choose Glee Gum over regular gum for health purposes if I wanted some to chew on. I had a couple of other people taste-test the gum with me and we all agreed that our main complaint with this gum is that it is difficult to chew and the flavour disappears too quickly. If you don’t mind really working your jaw while chewing on a piece of gum (does that count as exercise?) then you’re good to go! But it’s too bad how quickly the flavour vanishes, because the taste of the gum is really good. It just doesn’t last more than a few minutes.
How cute are all of these little boxes?
Have you tried Glee Gum? Do you chew regular gum? What are your thoughts on the artificial sweeteners that reside in so many brands of gum lining the grocery store shelves?
I wanna try GLEE GUM! Ive never heard of it before and, yes, am a sometimes gum chewer (flying, inexplicably when I travel in general).
oooh remember HUBBA BUBBA? BUBBLE YUM??
oh.
probably not 🙂
before your time.
anyone else?
I remember Bubble Yum! We had it over here too!
I don’t chew gum anymore… I learned that it’s not good for your digestive tract and as you say, there’s usually a lot of nasty ingredients in there. I used to chew a lot of gum when I smoked – obviously health wasn’t such a concern then.
As for writing, I’ve always wanted to write. I really believe that I should have studied journalism. When I stopped working two years ago, I started a short story writing course, but I hated it. Fiction is not my thing!
Whew girl, you are so busy! I don’t see how you keep up with everything! It’s amazing! Being a newbie bloggster, I’m just getting into my groove so to speak.
Glee gum, huh? Never heard of it … great name!
I’m not a gum chewer usually, but when I’m having one of THOSE days, it comes in handy. I’ll check out the Glee gum for sure.
I seem to recall a past life as a fiction writer. Sigh. So many stories in me, so little time….
I have never tried Glee Gum, but I don’t think we have that here in the US either. I do chew sugar free gum, but that’s because I really enjoy it! I chew Orbitz, it’s my favorite. I really don’t chew a lot of gum though, maybe 2 pieces per week, so the artificial sugar doesn’t bother me.
Glee Gum is so cute! With my TMJ I don’t know how hard I can chew tought gum, but I really like the product idea. Because you’re right- chewing on aspartame doesn’t sound that great!
I’ve never heard of it, but I’m a big advocate of gum! I chew doublemint which doesn’t have sorbitol in it. It has a few calories, but a lot fewer than chocolate cake!!
I don’t think Glee Gum is in the U.S., but it could just be we don’t have it where I live – in the middle of nowhere!
MizFit- I remember Hubba Bubba! Not Bubble Yum though.
Hanlie- journalism is so much fun. Definitely very challenging.
RickiRae- only so busy because I enjoy it all so much 🙂 Wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t love it!
Cammy- I adore stories of all kinds. There’s a story in everything.
Gina- I think back to a time when I used to obsessively chew gum constantly… these days I tend to forget about gum. And then I get on a plane and kinda wish I had some.
Healthy Ashley- eek aspartame!
Diane- It’s in the US, but I don’t expect you’d find it in a regular grocery store.
This gum looks yummy! I must admit, I chew the chemicals in a tablet. It’s one of my many vices. I wonder how the gum I chew would taste without the aspartame? It’s loaded with sugar alcohols like xylitol, which don’t bother me in small amounts. I wouldn’t mind a gum that wasn’t quite as sweet.
Guilty! I chew quite a bit of gum, but I’ve cut down (amazingly….though, um, I still chew probably 4 or 5 pieces a day – I used to chew 10-15 pieces a day!).
I have TMJ, so I really wish the Glee Gum weren’t so tough! Thanks for the review. The packaging IS super cute!
I once chewed gum, but quite a long time ago. Usually not a good behavior for jaw health, though some people tolerate it better than others.
I chew gum all the time. Mine usually has artificial sweetener in it, which I am trying to get away from. This is great though. I am going to have to try it out!
Ooh – I have always wanted to try Glee Gum! Thanks so much for doing it for me! I’m not a big gum chewer except for when I’m at parties or buffets. Then I like to put something in my mouth to keep me from picking at all the food the rest of the night. Will have to look for this stateside.
I love the little guy! I would keep just the packet handy to perk up a lousy day by smiling back at him.
Not a big gum chewer, but that stuff looks fun! The packaging is pretty irresistible too.
I actually have seen that gum somewhere (just can’t think where it was right now) and wondered about it. Thanks for the review, Sagan! I don’t chew a lot of gum anymore, but I’ll give that one a try.
Hey girl. how’s it going? How was the visit with the grandparents? Can I mention your site on my blog? Ties in with a post I’m doing. Nothing crazy
Chicle – guessing that’s where “Chiclets” came from?
Not really a gum-chewer, so I admit to not having given this much thought. Definitely not a fan of artificial sweeteners though.
Ugh, burpees…. I’ll give you bunker gear and see how many you can do then!! NOT fun : )
Cathy- to be honest, the taste of Glee Gum was great… it was the chew factor that was the issue!
Holly, Spring Girl, & Crabby- I’m a sucker for cute packaging 😀
Dr. J- to each his own!
SHE-FIT & the Bag Lady- let me know what you think of it!
Charlotte- gum is useful for things like that.
Dorie- of course you can 🙂 The trip was awesome. How are YOU doing? Eek about the burpees… they’re tough enough in shorts and a t-shirt!
JavaChick- this gum actually really reminded me of chicklets from the way they look.
I have tried glee gum and loved that it was more natural too! I just didnt like how the orange flavor dissolved in my mouth : haha
I don’t remember the last time I had gum. Never was into it. Now that I’ve read Charlotte’s comment, I now know one use for it. Haha. 😀
oh boy i am a chain gum chewer and trying to stop… i do like the idea of something more natural though!

I would never do business with glee gum website. They are inconsiderate bastards. They are so stupid or careless that they sent my order to my address without a street number. What type of mornons work for this company? The order was returned to me. They wanted to charge me to reship the order to me. What a bunch of assholes. I would rather buy a another organic gum. Glee gum is not that good anyway. I have alerted everyone that will listen to me to not do business with glee gum–Verve Inc. They suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
