Vote Food
Tonight I am going to see Manitoba’s premiere election candidates discuss food policy.
Food is a very important issue and I think it’s wonderful that Food Matters MB has taken the effort to create this event. I’m hoping that the candidates will answer questions related to supporting small, local farmers, food security in poverty-stricken areas of Winnipeg and around the province, better nutrition choices in cafeterias (including schools and hospitals), building community gardens and increasing awareness about the importance of nutrition in general.
I don’t expect any of them to have food labels on the agenda, but that’s okay – we’ll get there someday.
What food policy questions are important to you?
Today I hopefully will also spend time with the father dear – he arrived home last night, visiting from Cambodia, and he’ll be in Winnipeg for the next couple weeks! Hurray!
Oh you Canadians are so lucky that your political candidates are taking the time to care about stuff like food! In America we’re too busy fighting “my politician is better than your politician” arguments. I so wish our leaders would get beyond the pettiness and start a conversation about things that really matter – like food, sustainability, and the environment!
I hope good things come out of the presentation. Maybe I’ll move up by you all! 🙂
In America there’s a huge fight over raw milk. Private buyers clubs want to sell it but the FDA gets cranky. It’s kind of ridiculous. Then we have Monsanto, which pretty much is the FDA. It’s complicated and politicians are concerned with other things.
An important cause, you represent.
