Today is Day 7 of the 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse!
It’s been going pretty well so far. The first couple of days were quite enjoyable (I’m assuming because of the novelty of it). Day 3, on the other hand, was tough. That was the first day that I drank decaf tea instead of my usual chai green tea, and I’m not sure if it’s because of the lack of caffeine or because my detox symptoms were finally kicking in, but I had a headache for a good portion of Day 3.
Day 3 was also challenging because it was the first day during the green smoothie cleanse*ย that I felt strong cravings, as well as very fatigued. I even tried just sitting down on the couch and reading a book, but I was having a tough time focusing on the page—I just felt exhausted. It probably wasn’t the best idea to go for a 5-km run that day and also walk for more than three hours over the course of the day, but the exercise had been feeling so good that I didn’t want to cut it out.
By Day 4 of the 10-day green smoothie cleanse, however, I was feeling much better. I woke up feeling rested and did some light yoga. I also gave into temptation and weighed myself that morning, the first time since Day 1 of the green smoothie cleanse. And it turned out that weighing myself was a very good idea, because I was down 4 lbs and 1.1% body fat since Day 1! It definitely provided me with extra motivation to keep going.
Day 4 was also the day that I really began to enjoy the simplicity of the 10-day green smoothie cleanse. I liked that I made my smoothie the night before or first thing in the morning, and then had a few snacks to choose from (apples, baby carrots, and sugar snap peas).
If I wanted something with more sustenance, I could take the time to hard-boil an egg or two, or have a little handful of nuts. And I drank tea if I needed something warm, or water when I was thirsty. Sometimes, when I get hungry, I just want to open up the cupboards and eat everything. Or I just get the munchies—and I’m not truly hungry—and so I eat cheese or popcorn or candy in large quantities. But things are different, being on the green smoothie cleanse.
I like that the 10-day green smoothie cleanse is kind of like hitting the reset button; it enables me to really think about whether I’m hungry or just have the munchies, and to choose a healthy snack.
I was nervous about Day 5, because I was going to a friend’s birthday that evening. So I planned ahead and decided that I would have one glass of wine that evening, which worked out well.
What was more challenging for me was Day 5 of the green smoothie cleanse*, when the fire alarm went off in our building (there wasn’t a fire) and wasn’t turned off for a good hour, much to the chagrin of my poor ears—on top of that, in the middle of the fire alarm, the mother dear very kindly brought cupcakes over for us, not realizing I was doing the cleanse. So that certainly tested me for a moment!
Yesterday, Day 6, felt much the same as Day 4—I just felt good for most of the day (albeit a little hungrier).

ahhhh
ok
I now see I couldnt do it ๐
It’s not for everyone ๐
My blender is broken right now so I’m really sad that I get no smoothies. I’m being too cheap to put out for the Vitamix at the moment. I’ve been craving stir fry veggies (peppers & onions!) so that’ll have to do for today. Care for a peppers & onions smoothie? YOU , my dear, could make that happen, ya know.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
…wait. Maybe not. ๐ (Although I AM craving steamed broccoli. I’m so looking forward to cooking my veggies once this detox is over. Really gotta stop doing these types of raw foods and cleanses during the winter…)
Also, the holidays are coming up! Maybe some loved ones can do a joint Vitamix gift???
You’re doing great! Isn’t it crazy how the cravings eventually lift? I did a sugar detox in October that was awesome. Post marathon now, it’s time to buckle down again.
Thanks Marcia! LOVE how the cravings are going. I was having such a tough time with them for so long! Detoxes can feel so good ๐
I am simultaneously horrified and tempted!
I don’t think I have enough motivation at the moment, and am sure I would have caved very early on. But yay for you for sticking it out through the hungry/tired phase!
It’s funny about the motivation piece – I think if I’d tried this at any other time over the past several years I wouldn’t have been able to succeed at it. Everything just aligned well right now… timing is a biggie!
