Adventures in Kayaking
This weekend I went on a kayaking trip with the boyfriend and Westwood. It was fantastic! I hadn’t been kayaking in years. The boyfriend has his own kayak and Westwood has been a canoe tripper pretty much forever, so it was great that they had some experience. We were away for three days in the back country. I am covered in bug bits, sun burns and blisters, and it feels great 🙂
We paddled up three lakes and back. Caddy Lake, South Cross Lake and North Cross Lake were all connected by tunnels that we got to kayak right through. We didn’t make it up to the fourth lake, Sailing Lake, but to access that one we would have had to portage (and we would’ve needed an extra day to be able to paddle it ;)). The tunnels were super cool:
We kayaked for about three hours the first day, five the second day and three and a half on our last day. I was really pleased (and surprised) that my muscles weren’t sore at all – they certainly got tired, but they didn’t get sore. Of course, that might have been because I was so distracted by the sun burn, hehe. But we had a really lovely time and the weather was gorgeous. I’m looking forward to buying a kayak of my own in a couple years.
The boyfriend left today for 17 days (not that I’m counting ;)) of field work and Westwood leaves the first week of August to do her Masters in Halifax, making this weekend the last quality time that the three of us will get together for a long time. I can’t think of a better way to spend the time than kayaking, swimming and camping.
How was your weekend? Have you been kayaking before?

You warm the cockles of my heart 🙂
Oh, this looks like such fun! I haven’t been kayaking before, but these photos make me want to go out and buy one! (And I’m broke!)
What a beautiful trip & pics! How fun & glad you got to do that! I had a bit of everything this past weekend – family, fun, relax & exercise! 🙂
I LOVE kayaking… LOVE LOVE LOVE. The boyfriend and I just went canoeing this past weekend. It was great. The pics from your trip are lovely..
