Healthy Eating Activity: “Secret Ingredient” Week
Here’s an activity I wanted to share with you all from my Real World Wellness nutrition consulting business – it’s a great way to get the whole family involved in healthy eating and to explore some of the healthy foods available to you at your nearest grocery store.
“Secret Ingredient” Week
Goal: Try a healthy new ingredient this week.
Take a leaf from the Iron Chef’s book and cook your next meal around a surprise ingredient! The next time you’re at the grocery store, buy one new ingredient you’ve never used before: maybe you choose lentils, Swiss chard, or chia seeds.
After that, flip through your cookbooks or check out some food blogs for healthier recipes with your partner, kids or friends, and start cooking!
That’s a really good idea. We try and make a new recipe every month at least to try new stuff. There are so many things I figured I wouldn’t like that I really do.
Agreed! It’s such a pleasant surprise when you end up liking new foods.
I just bought a tiny finger of fresh tumeric. I’ve cooked with the powdered spice, but never the whole thing. I’m excited to give this a try. I love the Secret Ingredient Week idea.
Oh cool! I’ve never had turmeric in that form. There are so many interesting herbs and spices that would be fun to experiment with.
Hmmmm. I’m fairly new to milled chia seeds, which I’ve been LOVING! I’ve only ever had them in my smoothie so far, so maybe it’s time to experiment by actually cooking with it. I’ll take any tips you’ve got!
I definitely primarily use chia seeds in smoothies too. And by primarily I mean only. It never occurred to me to cook with them… I wonder if they would retain their nutrients? Must look into this!
Good Job. My thanks for posting this. I’ll definitely return to your site to see what’s new and inform my friends about your site.
