The Meatrix
My first year university English professor showed my class this film and we all loved it. Up until recently I’d forgotten about it, but as I’ve been thinking more and more about health it came to mind. I went on the search to re-discover this little gem and have found it, so I present you with: The Meatrix.
This is an incredibly informative little series of short films about the truth behind factory farming. It’s a cruel cruel world we live in. And a disgusting one, too. If you liked it before, fast food sure doesn’t look appealing now, does it? Mmmm, diseases, chemicals, and unsanitary conditions. My favorite!
Check out the other links at the Meatrix website and look around while you’re watching cartoon animals kicking ass:) It’s all about the choices we make and once we’ve got the resources to determine our best options, we can take the necessary action and choose what we want to support. After all, every time that you buy something at the grocery store, you’re saying, “I support this product”. Any money that you exchange for an item is a declaration of your acceptance and approval of it. Thinking about it that way, its hard not to take the moment and consider where our values lie. And as consumers, knowing exactly what our personal values are and what we believe in is going to have a massive effect on our actions and, in turn, affect what will become of the food industry.
I’m very much getting into the idea of buying only free range meats of all types. Of course, it gets very expensive, but I’d love to support farmers who practice what I consider ethical with regards to food production.
Ah man, you WOULD post this right when I decide to start eating meat again. You know I agree with you 100%. I don’t like eating animals. I think factory farming is completely barbaric and cruel. So yeah, I’ve been trying to buy only local free-range etc. meat. But it ain’t easy.
Fortunately I gave up fast food a while ago….I found an area butcher that only uses local, free range meat. A bit more expensive, but I will definitely support him!
okay.
I need to watch this.
I know.
but I love my meat.
Im not ready to view yet BUT Ive bookmarked it.
babysteps, right?

This was interesting, Sagan. A lot of it was stuff that I was already aware of, since I am one of those producers suffering at the hands of the big factory farms.
We try to raise our animals as ethically as possible. We give them antibiotics if they are SICK, but we don’t give them anything if we don’t have to.
This post was so close to my heart that I am having difficulty commenting…there are just too many things I want to say!
Gena- its tough when its so expensive, but it is nice to support the farmers.
Charlotte- sorry! Do you have any grocery stores near you that specifically sell local grass-fed etc?
Missicat- you’re lucky to have found that butcher:)
MizFit- I love my meat too! Could never be without it. But there’s a big difference between factory farming and local farming. I just want to make the healthier choice between the two (for everyone involved- me, the animals, the environment, and the farmers!).
Bag Lady- I think I speak for everyone when I say that if I lived near you I’d totally be supporting you:)
Very unfortunate indeed…we need to pay closer attention.
I’m all for supporting local farmers and buying meats that aren’t loaded up with hormones and crap. The cleaner we eat the better.

I started buying 100% grass fed beef and Happy Chickens a while back. Until then I couldn’t stand the taste of beef and started disliking chicken. Now I’m still not a big meat eater but can tolerate it when it’s REAL happy meat. Thanks for posting this, I have watched the videos before and viewed them again just now as a refresher lesson.
Robin
Robin Plan- thanks for stopping by:) I share your views on the REAL-ness of it (have you read “Real Food” by Nina Planck? It’s a really great book). And its always nice to go back for a refresher lesson!
