10-Second Boost: Elbow-length gloves
How better to get an old Hollywood look than with long gloves? I love a nice pair of long, elbow-length gloves, and here are the two main reasons why:
- They’re perfect for this time of year. The weather fluctuates quickly and it can be difficult to dress for the weather when the temperature changes so drastically throughout the day. One way to manage it is to wear a shorter-sleeved sweater with long gloves. The gloves will keep your hands and forearms warm, and if the sun heats you up too much, you can take them off and feel comfortable again.
- They lend a classy air to any outfit. Long gloves are so old Hollywood. There is something beautifully casual about wearing a pair of elbow-length gloves with a dressed-down jacket and understated ankle boots.
Start out with a neutral color for your first pair of elbow-length gloves. Black, brown, tan, or grey is a good bet. Choose a thin material so it doesn’t bulk up your arms (remember, you’ll probably be wearing these with looser sleeves, so you want to balance your forgiving top out with skinny gloves). You can also get tiny detailing on your gloves, such as beading along the length of it or embroidery along the edge.
For your next few pairs, have fun with getting trendier, exotic styles: bright red, thick wool, zig-zag patterns; you get the idea. This style won’t go with as many outfits as your neutral, classic pair, but it’s always nice to have options!
