Day Seven of the Raw Food Challenge

Yesterday, on Day Six of the Raw Food Challenge, I ate:

– 1/2 apple and a smoothie made with 1 frozen banana, 1 kale leaf, 1/2 scoop calcium/magnesium powder, the contents of 1 Probiotic capsule, lemon water, orange juice pulp, and frozen blueberries

– 1 apple with cashew butter and a few cashews, small piece flatbread with sunflower seed butter, and a few potato chips (made in the dehydrator with sea salt, black pepper, and Herbs de Provence), plus 1 glass lemon water

– Salad with mixed spring greens, tomato, cauliflower, 1/2 cob of corn, hemp seeds, homemade pomegranate/orange dressing, cucumber, apple slices

– 1 apple, chopped broccoli and cauliflower, and 2 mugs green tea

– Potato chips and 1/2 apple with cinnamon

– Zucchini pasta with sauce. I blended sunflower seeds, dates, tomatoes, rosemary, basil, onion, and garlic in a food processor and hoped for the best. It came out kind of chunky and not at all creamy as I had hoped. I didn’t enjoy it very much, although it was a more “winterized” sauce. Next time I think I’ll go back the marinara sauce. It tasted better.

– 1 apple with cinnamon and 1 mug green tea

– 1 glass lemon water and some super rich super decadent brownie (I put 2 parts walnuts to 2 parts dates to 1 part cacao powder in a food processor. Blend until smooth. This is what a brownie ought to taste like! White sugar and butter are a thing of the past ;)).

Woooo! Seven days done! How are you feeling about it? I’ve heard really good things about eating raw, have you started to feel healthier yet? Has it been hard to keep fresh produce in the house?

hi Sagan, have you thought of posting a pic or two of some of the more unusual foods you’re eating? I’m really struggling to imagine a bread that is not baked and is made from the pulp of fruit/vegetables. I also wonder if its my mind or the English language that needs to expand …somehow calling somehting made from zucchini ‘spaghetti’ seems inadequate, ditto for the bread.
and as for your lack of hunger you mentioned yesterday, perhaps its all the fiber? i’d imagine a raw food diet is far more fibrous.
anyway, all the best, am finding your whole experiment really fascinating, so thanks for that!

Meg- I’m feeling alright, I suppose I feel “healthier” in one sense… although I’ve never done SUPER well on eating high amounts of fat, and I’ve definitely been eating high amounts of fat with all of the nuts just to fill myself up. I haven’t had any of the scary detox symptoms that people talk about with headaches etc. It’s not TOO difficult to keep fresh produce in the house- am trying to do one BIG shopping trip each week to stock up. And then ration it. Heh.

fd- I’ll be sure to post some photos over the next few days! Keep meaning to and then I forget. Whoops. Thanks for the reminder ๐Ÿ™‚ And yes, zucchini “pasta” or juice pulp “bread” does certainly seem inadequate; the reason that I use these terms is because that is how they are talked about by other raw foodists. I suppose it would be more accurate to refer to them as “zucchini salad” and “crunchy juice pulp”, although those don’t sound quite as appealing ๐Ÿ˜‰

Kudos! I wish I had the discipline you do. I’m going to eat less of the evil white stuff this year… uhm, I’m gonna try. Seriously weak, over here ๐Ÿ™ I have been hitting the stairmaster (while watching American Idol reruns). I find that as I age, I’m developing little dangly bits. Yuck!

    Happy New Year, Sagan!

Cammy- Dried dates are useful for so much of baking, but this brownie is the best way to use them!

Dee- Awesome on the stairmaster! I have been sorely lacking in the exercise department the past week or so. Sighs. Good for you for trying to terminate the evil white stuff- just slowly replace it with other (non-evil ;)) things and you’ll be good to go!
